We are located at 925 Sixth Avenue, Aurora IL 60505.

Sunnymere is a 501c3 not-profit and is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

Sunnymere has a rich history.

In 1895, with a gift of a house and lot from Harriet Colby, ‘The Old Ladies’ Home of Aurora’ was established on the east side of town.  Another Auroran, Clara Bowron bequeathed her entire estate to establish the Bowron Home.

In the 1930’s, realizing the necessity of a larger home for a growing community, the Old Ladies’ Home and the Bowron Home combined resources to build Sunnymere.  Jessie Farnsworth donated seven acres on Sixth Avenue, between Hill Avenue and Smith Streets. The name Sunnymere was selected as a memorial to her, and the first residents moved in on July 16, 1939. Click here for more details on our history.

Today

Sunnymere has undergone many changes since those early years.   While we have always provided residential care for Independent seniors,Front entrance 2 in 1998, due to a recognized need for assisted living services at a reasonable cost, Sunnymere began providing assisted living.  Today, Sunnymere is a licensed sheltered care home for seniors 65 years and older.

Due to the vision of our predecessors and the thoughtful management of the Board of Directors, Sunnymere continues to be one of the most beautiful and special senior residences in the Fox Valley area.
