Each year we always have a wonderful family picnic/ get together, catered by Chef Larry. This year was no exception.
Mothers Day Celebration
In May, we had a wonderful party for our Mothers, complete with the Prairie Sun musical group. So good to have so many family members with us.
East High Girls Soccer came to visit our residents!
Hollywood Came to Sunnymere! The East High French Club planned a wonderful party on March 4th–to celebrate movies as the industry gave awards to their ‘winners’. The movie world partied–so did we!! Our residents could even walk in on ‘the red carpet’. What a good time had by all!!
February brought us Mardi Gras!
2018 Martin Luther King Day of Service. We were lucky to have students from the Upward Bound program at East High. What a great group of kids. So glad they chose Sunnymere for their ‘Day of Service’. In the morning, Renee organized a very fun Trivia game, and in the afternoon, residents and students played ‘Left Right Center’! A lot of fun–a lot of laughs!
Bingo at Sunnymere is such fun!! Thanks to Apex Hospice and Palliative Care and Harbor Light Hospice for supplying great Bingo prizes for Christmas Bingo.
Deck the Halls 2017! How wonderful to have so many volunteers from the Church of Good Shepherd to help decorate Sunnymere. And how great that so many family members came to enjoy the season. Thank you one and all.
Veterans Day at Sunnymere! So pleased that the Veterans group came to honor our residents who served our country: Don, Vern, Don, Ray, Johnny, Lloyd and John.
Halloween was amazing!
Our residents totally enjoyed the St. Olaf Pre-School coming to visit. The kids costumes were so cute–and then the residents dressed up too!!

POLYNESIAN REVIEW! What fun for all. Especially fun when Kevin and Vern donned grass skirts and were dancing! So many residents enjoyed a terrific show. Thank you, Renae for organizing this!
Spirit Week 2017. Fun all week, ending with a Fun Fair that staff could bring their kids! A good time was had by all!
The City of Aurora had a big party to honor all those who turn 100 this year (and those who turn one). Our own Lucille was one of those being honored!
Family Picnic 2017. Family members and residents and friends joined together to have a great time at this year’s event. Thanks to all who attended, Larry who catered the event and Renae who put it all together. Great job, all!
Our 2017 Mother’s Day Celebration was great. Residents and staff brought their friends and family and enjoyed Jeanette Andrews, a Magician, and a tasty buffet supper. Thank you, Renae, for a job well done!

St. Patrick’s Day
Sunnymere was definitely ‘Wearing the Green’ on St. Pat’s Day. Corned beef and cabbage first, and then a party. And a puppy came to see us. Fun for all.

The Holiday for Trees
The 4th graders from Aurora’s Temple B’nai Israel spent a Sunday morning at Sunnymere, sharing the holiday of Tu B’Shevat, the Jewish holiday that celebrates ‘trees’ and all things that grow from the ground. Enjoyed by all!
On this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. ‘Day of Service’, area students volunteered to spend time with our residents. Everyone had a great time playing games together. Apples to Apples and Left Right Center were especially fun. Thank you to all the young people who made our residents very happy that day.

The holidays were so festive! We so appreciate all the groups who came to sing and interact with the residents.
Moms & More came to Sunnymere! Yes, moms and their little ones came to visit and spend time with our residents. You can see how much everyone enjoyed the visit!
Veterans Day at Sunnymere
Sunnymere took on a patriotic theme on November 11th as the ‘Visiting Veterans’ presented a special program to honor veterans at Sunnymere. We have several veterans as well as widows of veterans here at Sunnymere.
Halloween at Sunnymere was so much fun. Costumes, great pumpkins, games–and Halloween cookies!

So pleased that Mission Aurora came to help us clean up our grounds over the summer. Five churches recruited volunteers and how lucky for us that they spent one day at Sunnymere.

Celebrating Weddings! June is ‘Wedding Month’ at Sunnymere. The residents shared good memories–wedding photos, talked about their weddings, honeymoons and engagements!
Hee Haw Bingo! (When you got a bingo–you had to say Hee Haw!)
Irene S. celebrated her 102nd birthday! The family had a banner made which we displayed in the dining room. Hurray for Irene!Temple B’nai Israel kids visit Sunnymere! They experienced a Passover Seder together and then worked on a craft.The residents loved having the kids visit (again).

Students volunteered to spend time with our residents–the kids ranged from AU students, High School, Middle School, Grade School students–all the way down to a kindergartner! Some visited with the residents, others did crafts with them. T’was a good day for all!
